The final year of the Mayan calendar is upon us; an auspicious Black Water Year of the Dragon is blooming. It’s shaping up to be quite a year, with changes coming appropriate for crossing the galactic equator, in a ruckus sure to wake Quetzalcoatl!
Big changes closer to home with the conclusion last month of the jazz jam at the Tea Zone. Sam calculated that we were the second longest running jam in Portland. It was quite a run, and the jam continues there on Wednesdays but now in a fusion style. Around the corner at Ivories the bop and what-not continues on Tuesdays, with a jam featuring Hank Hirsch and friends. Grooving out on a real piano makes a real nice vibe for jamming.
I’m psyched to play with a new singer named Dominic Castillo who plays guitar and sings in a swinging style a bit like Chet Baker. Were doing the Secret Society this Saturday, and it should be fun, I’ve never played there before so looking forward to digging a new room.
Lot’s of new stuff in the works, including a couple of Fulero/Prescott/West dates in March . . . Stay tuned!
