Bassist, Producer, Visionary ~

As a founding member of G. Love and Special Sauce, Jim ‘Jimi Jazz’ Prescott helped to create the bands unique sound with his string bass, combining punk, funk, jazz, rock, hip hop and classical stylings.

Taking a break from almost 15 years on the road with the Special Sauce, Jim can be found at his studio JamBox in his recently adopted home base Portland Oregon, exploring multimedia production, recording his own jazz oriented projects, or lending his expertise to up and coming talent.

Although no longer interested in getting on commercial airlines, Jim is available within driving distance of Portland, or via the internet. Contact us for adding string bass to your next project, booking his Hybrid Quartet or engaging in Jazz or Bass studies.

It seems the season is changing, wow, it’s getting dark early, Halloween is upon us, as are some changes in the jazz jam world.

First, the venerable Camellia Lounge at the Tea Zone has moved the jazz jam to Wednesday night, as well as moving their music time up to 8pm.  Seems like a lot of great players are making the scene now, so get on out and check it.  If you can’t make that jam, come by the Hall of Record on Belmont on Monday nights - also at 8pm, where Hank Hirsch has relocated after the Globe closed down.  We’ve got pianist Grant Johnson who has a seriously swinging touch that you got to see.

Lot’s more jazz and fun in the works, so keep in touch.

I’m proud to announce my first release for JamBox Gold records - Smooth Bumps Volume One, Music from Van Gogh Vangone.  This five song EP length album is available for your review and download here: http://jimijazz.bandcamp.com/.

Based around the Fender Rhodes electric piano, I’ve been working on these songs on and off for many years.  In ‘09 I was looking for some transitional music for my short film Van Gogh Vangone and a couple of these tracks provided just the right mood.  Eventually the other pieces were finalized and I decided it worked nicely as a 4-5 song set.  And that it would make a fine inaugural release for JamBox Gold records, which we formed to feature some of the great music coming out of the JamBox studio.

You can choose you own price ($5. min.) for the download, or just listen for free.  Thanks for supporting independent music.
